Knock knock, Who's there? - New year 2017
The time has come, the new year is around the corner, and I still feel like the end of this year is flying by at the speed of light. Besides all Christmas shopping and preparations, some of us draft that list. You know what list I am talking about here.
I say ditch the list of things you want to achieve in the new year, but you never will, because let's face it, nobody really follows it. And in essence you should only have one main goal every year:
To live life to the fullest doing things that you love
However if you still feel like that is not enough, I compiled 10 things you should do before the end of the year in order to increase your productivity, have a happier year and achieve unwritten goals without stressing about it
1. Get a pocket journal, or a weekly diary/ agenda
I was never the type to make longs lists of things I want to accomplish in the new year, and after trying it a few times I decided its not worth my time. Now what I like doing is get ready for the new year by getting myself a new pocket journal, or you can opt for a diary, my favourites are by Moleskin.
If aren't a stationary freak like myself, there are awesome apps that you can use to keep track of your thoughts and organise your days; Keep by Google is one of my favourites.
Remember, you don't need to write novels or think that you need to be a writer to keep one, bullet points work too, and you can always look back on your own thoughts.
2. Practice killing your expectations
Expectations, expectations, expectations... if you don't kill them, they will kill your vibe. Simple as that! Most of our heart ache and disappointment is due to setting our expectations too high, when in fact you should not have any at all. We are surrounded by expectations, we expect the supermarket to have our favourite soft drink, we expect our lovers to give us a move like love, we expect to succeed etc. And when the things we expect are not there we are disappointed and often bring ourselves down, feeling like we failed.
3. Create a mood board before the new year
I am a mood board freak. I have been keeping scrapbooks and mood boards for years now. Putting pieces of paper from my favourite magazines together, just like a puzzle to bring to life my vision of how I want my year to go is one of my favourite things to do before the new year. It's entirely up to you if you want to use paper or apps like Pinterest. You can check out my Mood Boards for inspiration.
4. Show gratitude every day
If you've spent most of this year moaning and complaining, just stop. The more you moan, and you are "unhappy" with your life, the more you attract negative vibes. The moment you show gratitude and you are grateful for the good and the bad, life takes a different turn and you will see yourself bloom more. You hold the power to decide the course of your day.
5. Get out of your comfort zone and do things that scare you
We are creatures of habit and comfort, and if you've stuck yourself in an area of comfort this year make it your aim for 2017 to get out of your comfort zone and do things that scare you. A few things you may consider are: traveling alone, telling someone you love them, exploring a country, doing an extreme sport etc. 2016 was all about that and for me the highlight was climbing a mountain to get to a virgin beach - read more about playa de Guigui here.

6. Express yourself more.
I know most of us hold back our real selves. Well here is a cool piece of advice for you " Fuck it". Yes! fuck it, be yourself, because the only person you have to impress everyday is yourself. Once you start being yourself you will feel more comfortable in your skin and that will ensure a great year ahead. You will feel great in your own skin, you will do more of the things you love, you will feel fulfilled and ready to take on any challenge.
I remember when I was little, the time before New Year and Christmas it was the time ( as my grandma would advise) to let loose any grudges.
Forgive yourself first, forgive others, and forgive future mistakes.
8. Clean your closet - literally and figuratively
Get rid of anything that weighs you down. People, things, clothes etc. November was the perfect time to let go of clothes that I was attached to but I didn't actually wear or want to wear anymore. I felt like it was time for my closet to have a breather and stop being so cluttered.
Get rid of items that you are not using, files on your computer that are just there and you've been meaning to delete for ages, items that clutter your room, books you don't read etc.
9. Cancel your gym membership
"Hold on, what?" Yes I am dead serious. If you are one of those people that has a gym membership and only goes few times a month, what's the point? You are still gonna stuff your face with Mac when you get out. Instead of having to deal with the guilt of not going to gym regularly, how about you turn your life around and start a new lifestyle. One that focuses on eating healthy on a daily basis and doing some form of exercise everyday. For instance go for a walk in a park, or for a run, or do Yoga/Pilates at home. This will not only save you money that you can invest somehow else in yourself, but it will make you more disciplined and build your character. Don't get me wrong, I love going to gym and lifting weights, but in the last half a year I've noticed that I can bring myself where I want to be physically by being disciplined and having a certain lifestyle.
10. Spend more time with the ones you love
I don't really need to explain this. Just pend more time with those who matter family and friends, share the love.
