Morning drive to Neuschwanstein Castle | Curated by Mon

The most exciting thing for me when I'm traveling is the unexpected. I often say that a life without expectations is a better life, and it's something that I challenge myself to practice every day.

It was a December morning, still no snow, and I wasn't expecting much. For the day we wanted to visit Neuschwanstein Castle situated in Germany, close to the border with Austria where we were.

That morning I did not expect to see such splendor from mother nature. Everything was quiet, the morning mist was slowly rising, the birds were singing and the air was fresh and crisp.

Road trips are the best!

Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany.

Such a beautiful castle, and the inspiration for many Disney Castles, including Sleeping beauty. To get to the castle you can take a 30-minute walk up the hill, or go by a horse carriage. Even though you might not have heard of this castle, it's so popular with 1.3 million people visiting annually.

We expected to be able to buy tickets on the day, however, we had no chance. I do recommend buying them in advance to avoid disappointment.

And even if you don't want to go inside, I still urge you to see the outside, go to the cascade and have a different view of the castle, just mind the crazy tourists.

Happy Exploring!
